How do you think Islamic architecture projects the idea of political power?

As you know, Islamic architecture has distinct features and characteristics that independently came from another culture or tradition. For example, arch and dome were used and perfected by the Romans, or the prayer niche was used by other religions of antiquity. However, when the same elements are used in a mosque or a madrasa, we make no mistake in identifying them as Islamic. What do you think is the reason for this distinction? How many other examples can you think of besides the dome and the niche? How do you think Islamic architecture projects the idea of political power?
