Henry D. explains families must protect their citrus crops from freezing. They start bonfires in their groves trying to warm their crops. They have to spray water on the trees to keep the temperature at 32 degrees: at 31 degrees they die. Paul is astounded at the precarious line between life and death when faced with the power of nature.
