A Tale of Two Cities

Why was Madame Defarge acting so strange?

I have to explain how Madame Defarge is acting and why you think the character is acting that way in atleast 5 sentences. You find out later in the book that she was always knitting the names of people to get killed but i cant understand why she would be acting that way before it was told why?

Madame D wasn't the nicest lady. She would give Scrooge a run for his money but that's another Dicken's novel. Her main trait seems to be vindictiveness and bloodlust. So how did she get like that? Perhaps she harbours resentment at how she was treated by the aristocracy. She certainly had it out for the Evrémondes. Whatever happened to her, she couldn't let it go.
