A Tale of Two Cities

Why is Lucie called "She"

In Book the Third Chapter 9, I noticed that throughout this chapter Mr. Sydney Carton refers to Lucie as "she" rather than by name. I found this odd because I thought that they had a friendly relationship.

I'm not sure it's meant to change the meaning of their relationship. If he uses the pronoun simply to mean Lucie without any verbal emphasis on "she" to change the meaning I think it's okay.
