The title, A Companion Picture, reflects the way the scene featuring Stryver and Carton mirrors the complimentary scene between Darnay and Doctor Manette. In his dicussion with Doctor Manette, Darnay exhibits respect, humilty, and sincerity. Stryver, on the other hand, behaved in a pompous, self-absorbed, and irksome manner. Stryver's views on marriage reflect the Victorian age..... marriages of convenience. On the flip side, Darnay's wish to marry Lucie has nothing to do with practicality and stems from love.

It is titled as so because it contrasts the different natures of Stryver and Carton alongways.
