A Tale of Two Cities

Why did Madame Defarge say she visited Lucie, and what was her true reason?

I want to know what was the true intention of Madame Defarge for meeting Lucie at Tellson's in Paris.

Madame Defarge says she is going so that she might commit Lucie's face to memory in order that she might help to protect her. This is untrue, as she has sworn to see the end of Lucie's husband's line and now knows he also has a daughter.
