Lucie does not like the Carmagnole. She finds it very frightening infused with threat of violence. Lucie describes the dance as “a cruel, bad sight”. The narrator comments that , “no fight could have been half so terrible as this dance.” The dance reminds Lucie to fear for her husband's life.
