Sydney and Mr. Lorry sit by the fire. Carton tells Mr. Lorry the deal he has made with Barsad. What is it and what is the weakness in it? (From Book 3 Chapters 6-10)

Carton explains that all he could get out of Barsard was a promise to see him before he died. He surprises Mr. Lorry with his warmth and sympathy by asking him not to worry. Mr. Lorry's duties are done in Paris, and he has permission to leave the city. Carton wistfully asks Mr. Lorry if he felt his life was wasted, which it clearly was not, and envies the fact that the seventy-eight-year-old would have someone to mourn him if he died.

The weakness in the plan was that something could go wrong, and Darnay wouldn't be able to be saved.

"But access to him," said Mr. Lorry, "if it should go ill before the Tribunal, will not save him."
