How is Dr. Manette changed by saving Charles Darnay?

He somewhat gets rid of his shoemaking habit and he gets happy because he found a job as a inspecting physician at the prisons. He was busy and running back and forth to save Darnay and so he found a new purpose (its like he felt special).
