A Tale of Two Cities

At the end of Chapter 11, the narrative says that Carton “…walked with a settled step.” What does this imply about the change that has happened within him? (From Book 3 Chapters 11-15)

I think that Carton is resigned to the fact that Darnay will die. Although sad, there is a sense of finality for Carton that makes him walk with a "settled step".
