Sylvia Plath wrote ‘The Moon and the Yew Tree’ in 1961 while she was suffering from writer’s block. She looked out her bedroom window to find inspirartion. I'm not convinced a troubled childhood is a theme in this. The speaker seems disalusioned: the light is “cold and planetary” but I'm not sure this is about childhood.
