Please describe the way in which Flesch fulfills his role as translator?

Flesch is rather cruel in that he translates not so much the way things are stated, but rather how he'd like them to be heard. He is selective in his speech and attempts to soften the German words he must translate, as he has no desire to be a link to the oppression the prisoners are living under.
