Would you join the pilot who flew to Los Angeles? Why or why not?
There are both reasons to join the pilot and to stay in Severn City Airport. In the book, many people who are from Asia head to Los Angeles because it is at least closer than Michigan. Do students understand that impulse or would they rather stay somewhere they knew, for the time being at least, was safe? Help students relate this to the "survival is insufficient" theme. In the immediate aftermath of the outbreak, is survival still insufficient or are students more likely to be focused simply on staying alive?
