Sons and Lovers

One aspect about S&Ls, I most enjoyed were those numerous train journeys Paul made wherein he meets many characters, including, ofcourse, his beloved Clara.

When I realize that time period 1910-20s, early locomotives, the tracks through unspoiled country, and how DH depicted those scenes, I realize he borrowed from many of his own life of that time or earlier. Did DH make many train journies, his routes, how frequent he traveled and on what business?

I really don't know DH Lawrence's biography that well but train travel was a primary mode of transportation during his era so I suspect that he did.
