Sonny's Blues is written in the first-person, though the unnamed narrator, does not tell his story in chronological order. The narrator flashes back and forth between the present and the past, giving the reader an inside glimpse of both his and Sonny's actions and motivations. The narrator sketches the present, and then he reminisces about the past..... pulling everything together.
