what happend to roland

Roland is killed at the Battle of Roncesvals where he dies a martyr. At the moment of death, he is carried off by the saints and angels to Paradise, he is taken in front of his comrades and enemies to his place in heaven. The rest of the poem recounts how Charlemagne avenges his death.
