Sir Gawain is brave, honest, loyal, courteous, and honorable. He is not, however, perfect, as is evidenced in his acceptance of the girdle, as well as his denial that he received it from his host's wife.

Sir Lancelot, who is only mentioned briefly in the text, is considered Arthur's greatest knight. Once again, however, there are flaws in his chivalric honor. Lancelot's love for Guenevere, and his subsequent affair with his King's wife, ultimately causes the downfall of Camelot.
