Sir Gawain and the Green Knight

And, why on earth is the knight green? What could the color symbolize?

The color green represents nature; the knight is dressed in green, carries a holly branch, meets Gawain at the Green Chapel (a wild place), and in the end we find out that he enjoys the hunt..... all of these are evidence of nature.
