Dunstan is nasty and Silas is not. Dunstan does not want to work for his wealth. Instead he schemes and steals even though he comes from a family of wealth. Dunstan has had a "silver spoon" so to speak for his entire life. Silas has worked for his money. He hoards it as a symbol of some kind of security. While Dunstan squanders the money that he gets, Silas lives humbly in order to keep what he makes.
