Siddhartha

what does Siddhartha ultimately learn by the end of the book

To what degree did he need his life experiences to learn this?

I think it is ultimately the river that brings Siddhartha full circle. The river awakens the knowledge within Siddhartha of the unimportance of wealth and status, how things are connected, and that time is merely an illusion.
