Siddhartha feels the wounds from his son who left. He realizes that he was not a perfect son himself. Vasudeva guides Siddhartha to listen to the river. For the first time the sounds become coherent. He hears all the voices of the river as one force of life. Siddhartha merge into unity with everything around him thus healing his wounds.
