Siddhartha

Kamala tells siddhartha "You've Remained a sanaba. You still don't love me; you love nobody." Siddhartha turns, tells Kamala, "You also do not love- how else could you practice love as a craft?" What is it that siddhartha and Kamala lack or have that makes them unable to love? What is it about the child like people that allow them to love?

I think, that from a Buddhist perspective, both of them hold on to the self. It is their ego that they can't let go of so they are unable to love. They lack a sense of selflessness and empathy.
