District 9 and Shooting an Elephant as a postcolonial text? HELP!

Hi Everyone,

I am currently in year 11 and undertaking ext 1 english.

We have assessments coming up. It is an in class essay with the essay question being:

'Postcolonial literacy criticism focuses on developing recognition and overcoming ignorance.

Discuss how your study of your two texts (District 9 and Shooting an Elephant) has developed your ability to recognise race structure and overcome racist assumptions.'

I have no idea how to start. PLEASE HELP!
