He is “the philosopher apothecary of Quebec.” His trade entails formulating medicinal remedies. He started off as count de Frontenac’s “Apothecary and physician.”
Cecile
She is the Apothecary’s only daughter who craves to meet her cousins. She religiously cooks and supports her father after her mother’s demise.
Blinker
He works for the Apothecary’s neighbor. His form, particularly the cross eyes, alarms people. Cecile serves him soup every evening like her mother used to before her demise.
Madame Auclair
She is the apothecary’s diseased wife. When they relocated to Canada, she brought with household appliances which they used in Paris to ensure a continuity and stability of her previous life.
Jacques
He is Cecile’s comrade. Jacques’ mother neglects him, but Cecile nurtures looks out for him as if he was her brother.
