Sense and Sensibility

Are the male characters purposely lackluster compared to their female counter parts?

Does austen purposely portray edward and colonel brandon as bores as to show the reader that even after all the struggles the dashwood sisters go through to get their men , the sisters still deserve better then they get. As the only reason they cant get more passionate men is because of their financial insecurity ?

ps.Also is a reason that elinor is quick to forgive willoughby after his confession is because some kind of physical attraction to him? i read that somewhere ? opinions please
