I think the speaker means that dreams often take people away from the moment and the practical things of life. People forget who they are and what is important in the present.

The poet advises his son not to be absorbed in dreams, lest they lose their touch with stark realities. He also mentions that the dreams should not be masters as it would be foolish as it will make him idle as he would always be dreaming instead of trying hard to make his dreams come true and live in reality

Me myself😀

The poet says that we should not make dreams our master as if we will make dreams our master, we will not be able to achieve it.
