Romeo and Juliet

What do you think was Shakespeare's purpose in writing a play with such opposing views of sexuality and love?

I'm not sure what you mean by "opposing". Certainly R &J had the impulsive and rash love of youth. Opposed to what? can you explain further?

like the men made crude sexual jokes but the women though of it as a soft loving thing

Oh, I see. Women of high interest, like Juliet, were put on a pedestal. They were considered chaste, pure and virginal. Of course should something go wrong, they became the opposite. Women generally didn't tell bawdy stories, it reflected badly on their reputation. Men had the luxury of much more sexual freedom.
