Romeo and Juliet with its themes of young love, impulsive decision making, anger between powerful men, and the intensity of the emotion of the young lovers will remain popular with many future generations. Shakespeare nearly always speaks with the universal qualities which appeal to all people. It is a story which has been translated into dozens of languages and rewritten in such forms as West Side Story. Even as recently as about 2000, the story was redone with the addition of music, guns (modern weapons) and cars and the setting of Verona Beach. It will last because it speaks to young love in all of us.
