Romeo and Juliet

Why does Romeo act the way he does? What do you learn about him in this first Act?

In the first act, we learn that Romeo is lovesick. He is feeling sorry for himself because the young woman he believed himself to be in love with has decided to remain unmarried and unattached. In essence..... she doesn't return his love.
