Romeo and Juliet

Is it plausible that the friar should have in his possession a potion capable of making a person appear dead for a set length of time?

(In ACT 4) Because the friar prepares a potion contary to anything to known to science, some critics have labeled this a supernatural element in the plot.

It is plausible for the time. The Friar was an expert on herbs and plants that were used for medicine at the time.
