Thisbe and Pyranus had a love fated to end much like Romeo and Juliet's. Including this reference foreshadows their end. When Pyranus returns to Thisbe at the tomb where they're to meet, he finds a sign and mistakenly believes her dead. Thus, he takes his own life, and she follows shortly after.
