Romeo and Juliet

Act 1 Scene 4

Although Romeo has decided to go to the party , he is still sad and depressed. He states that he will go to the party but will not dance. Mercurtio tells Romeo in lines 16 and 17 that Romeo is a lover and that he should borrow cupid's wings and soar with them above common ground. What in essence is Mercutio saying?

He is saying that Romeo is meant to be in love rather than out of love. We can also infer some latent homoeroticism in Mercutio's words. He really likes Romeo.
