Why is cassie so excited when Jeremy tells her that Melvin, R.W, and Papa are fighting the fire?

During the thunder strom, a fire blasts the cotton that cassie and her family have been planting for the whole year. Jeremy comes over to cassie's house and says that Papa, R.W, and Melvin are fighting the fire.

Cassie knows that if everyone is working together..... then nobody can be hurting anyone else. This means that no one will be out to get TJ, and he can safely be taken to jail.
