Harlan Granger has an interest in the Wallace store. He comes over to harass and intimidate the Logans about shopping at Vickburg. He threatens that he has connections that will ensure the bank will foreclose on the loan the Logans took out to buy their property. There isn't much the Logans can do other than to listen to him until he leaves. Any show of violence or disrespect would get them into trouble.
