Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry

Why do you think that Mildred Taylor chose to tell the story from the point of view of a child? What kind of effect does this have on the reader? Do you think she was successful in telling her story, by having Cassie tell the story?

Like say the character of Scout in "To Kill a Mockingbird", a child's point of view tends to be honest and real. Cassie is learning to navigate a very unjust world and her frank honesty is appreciated by older readers. When she learns things, we learn things. Yes the narrative is very successful because the reader remembers Cassie for a long time.
