The emblem of the Confederacy is a symbol of the South..... a symbol of those who fought to insure the institution of slavery, and a symbol of the racism that was well and alive in the area where the Logans lived.

In the very center of the expansive front lawn, waving red, white, and blue with the emblem of the Confederacy emblazoned in its upper left-hand corner, was the Mississippi flag. Directly below it was the American flag.
