It isn't the greatest. Although he is charismatic, he is not mature in his relationships. He wants to impress the wrong people and doesn't treat the people who care about him well. He lets Stacey take the blame for his cheating and cheats Stacey out of his coat.

TJ is not so much of a friend to Stacey when he gets Stacey in trouble for cheating on a test that TJ was actually guilty of. Ultimately, TJ is shunned by other blacks and tries to find friendship with the Simms family.
