The chapter begins with the words of a song beginning "Roll of thunder/hear my cry" which Mr. Morrison sings at the thunder, as he waits outside the house as he has done every night since Papa was injured. Mr. Morrison knows trouble is brewing with racists over both TJ's situation and Papa's.
