How does Cassie reveal her lack of sophistication on the day she goes to strawberry?

I think Cassie expected the town to be more sophisticated than it was. In that way she lacked the experience to handle the same old racism that she experiences at home. She gets angry at Mr. Barnett for his racial slur. This causes more trouble than it's worth.
