The Averys and their eight children come over for Christmas dinner after church. While everyone is sitting around after dinner, Jeremy Simms arrives at the door and gives the family some nuts and Stacey a flute that he carved himself. Stacey cannot understand why Jerermy brought him a gift until Papa suggests he gave Jeremy the gift of friendship in the past year. Although they have very little the mood is warm and contented. The children really prize the books they have been given.
