Why did big ma "have" to make cassie apologize in chapter five?

Ma knows that the situation is not winnable for them. The Logans would only be hurt by a confrontation, thus, apologizing is the proper thing to do. In her heart, Ma understands the situation and knows that they can hold their head up high, even though they apologized for something they did not do wrong.
