In your opinion, why did Crusoe want to keep a journal?

I believe that Crusoe's journaling gave him a focus.... a way to keep track of the days and the way he spent them. Journaling keep the mind working, it requires planning and forethought, it is a way of keeping things that would otherwise be lost recorded, a way of keeping oneself sane.
