Triton’s passion for cooking is another major theme in the book. Since, most of his world revolves around the house and its chores, and he is hardly interested in any world beyond the gates, his thoughts are primarily dedicated to food. Not of its consumption, but sourcing, meticulous preparation and even other mundane tasks as washing of dishes and stowing away leftovers. By adding rich imagery to these mundane tasks Gunesekara creates a complexity to the art of cooking and Triton’s love for it.
