As Twyla and Roberta discuss Roberta’s husband, a man who works with “computers and stuff,” Twyla sighs that the days at St. Bonny’s are so clear. She remembers when Maggie fell down and the older girls, the “gar girls,” laughed at her. To Twyla’s surprise, Roberta says that Maggie did not fall: the gar girls pushed her and tore her clothes. Twyla is shocked, and Roberta says Twyla is blocking out the memory with Maggie.
