Mrs. Danvers is constantly causing problems for the narrator or merely destroying what little confidence she has. Danvers leaves Rebecca's belonging such as her stationery and her monogrammed linens all over the house. She also maintains Rebecca's room just as if she were still alive and takes great pleasure in showing the narrator her custom-made lingerie and the fur that Maxim had given her as a gift. Danvers also tricked the narrator into wearing the same masquerade costume that Rebecca had previously worn, infuriating Maxim at the party she had worked so hard to organize.
