The flying machine

What are some ways the emperor could have recognized his own emotions,thoughts and values when his attempt to protect his kingdom was only temporarily successful

I suppose the Emperor needs a little therapy. There is a sense of paranoia that he has in his rash actions. He could have conferred with wise confidants in his royal court before killing the inventor and destroying the flying machine.
