Ultimately, the biggest contrast is that Eliza does have hopes for the future, even before Higgins takes her in. She, however, does not know how to achieve this until she meets Higgins and Pickering. Her father is perfectly content with his lot in the beginning; when he is offered 10 pounds for Eliza, he says no because that might make him think about being prudent and he has no desire to be a prudent man. Ultimately, Eliza does change and follows Higgins lessons; Alfie Doolittle has to make some changes, but he is most unhappy about them.
