Colonial Pickering is Englishman who has served in India and written in the field of liguistics there; a perfect gentleman who always treats Liza with utmost kindness. Higgins is manipulative and really does not understand the opposite sex. He sees them as an experiment rather than an attraction or even people. Higgins is perpetually single which might help explain he lack of empathy or understanding of the opposite sex.
