About the Author

Born in Dublin, Ireland, in July 26, 1856, George Bernard Shaw was interested in the arts from a young age. In 1876, Shaw followed his mothers and sisters, who had moved to London, with the idea of beginning a writing career. His mother supported him as he worked towards producing novels, none of which were accepted by major publishing houses. In the wake of his publishing difficulty, Shaw became interested in politics and social critique, joining the Fabian Society in 1884. It was through this membership that Shaw began to shine, first through a major contribution to the group’s publication Fabian Essays in Socialism, which was published in 1889.
