Education is seen as an emancipation for black Africans. Kambili’s father’s past gives us an idea of how important he thinks education is. He knows that it is the only way forward for young Africans, especially young female Africans. Aunty Ifeoma, Papa’s sister, teaches at the University in nearby Nsukka. She has a great affect on Kambili. She is able to show Kambili a greater world yet hold on to traditions.
